Gabion Sacks are cylindrical units which are made of double twisted steel woven wire mesh panel 6*8,8*10,10*12,12*15cm according to ASTM A 975 and EN10223.

Gabion Sacks are filled with stone at the site to form flexible and durable structures, to be used in river training and emergency works. Sack gabions are supplied with reinforcing wires to be inserted during the manufacturing process, to facilitate closing during installation. the wire used in gabion sacks is heavily zinc coated soft temper steel. Standard wire is mild steel wire, all the wire used in gabion sacks and lacing wire have the tensile strength of 38-48kg/m2. according to BS1052/80 and ASTM A641-97.(the figures above are of the wire prior to manufacturing mesh).The tolerances on diameter of zinc coated wire in table 2/The elongation at break in min 12% and test to be carried out on a sample of minimum 30cm (12 in)long, before manufacturing the mesh.

Gabion Sacks Galvanization strictly conform to ASTM A641-97 calss III soft temper coating. zinc adherence has to be such that when the wire is wrapped around a cylindrical mandrel having 4 times the diameter of the wire, the zinc shall not flake or crack to such and extent that any flake or crack can be removed by simply rubbing with bare fingers.
